THE LITTER BOX If you do a search on the Internet for Cat Litter Boxes, you will turn up pages and pages of information, articles, and more advertisements than you can handle in a decade. The array of products now available on the market pertaining to cat litter makes me want to take up goat herding. Everyone has their own methods, and it's important that you use the method that works for you but, more importantly for your cats because they will ALWAYS have the last say in this matter. I'm not going to reinvent the wheel on this page, but direct you to some resources should you be seeking information. The clumping clay controversy: I did a
lot of research on this when I first started breeding. Is it
dangerous? I don't think so, but the controversy rages on and
simply will not die. I consider it an "urban myth."
However, here is an article that I thought was good on the issue so
that you can make up your own minds:
http://cats.about.com/cs/ Problems with litter box compliance (aka house soiling): This is one of the most comprehensive articles I've come across on this subject. It's in two parts, so don't miss the link to Part 2 at the end of the article: http://www.catsinternational.org/articles/housesoiling/unabridged_litterbox_1.html Excellent information on all aspects of litter box issues: http://www.catinfo.org/litterbox.htm What do I think and what do I do? I follow the advice pretty much as described in the above article on www.catinfo.org . I use clumping clay litter -- Dr. Elsey's Precious Cat litter as shown on catinfo.org (either the 'Classic" in the red bag, or the 'Multi-cat' in the blue bag). I also maintain my litter boxes per her advice and per the video found on her website. I've made my own video -- below:
